Summary
The Oral-B Genius 9000 electric toothbrush represents the best technology that electric toothbrushes have to offer. It’s easy to use, gives an amazing clean for your teeth and gums, and if you can find it for sale under its recommended retail price, it is great value.
Buy this toothbrush if you want the best for your teeth and gums with some extra bells and whistles. And if you want an electric toothbrush but can’t quite justify the price tag, I will still recommend sticking to an Oral-B brush further down the product line because of the 3D oscillating action which is more effective at removing plaque than the “sonic” types of electric toothbrushes.
Full Review
So, I have a confession to make…
I haven’t used an electric toothbrush for 7 years.
I’ve just stuck with a regular, small-headed, soft bristled manual toothbrush. And it works just fine. If you can use a manual toothbrush effectively, you use a fluoride-toothpaste and have a good diet, you’ve got a very good chance of maintaining good oral health.
But then, why do electric toothbrushes exist?
Well, some people have a habit of brushing too hard, causing irreversible damage to their teeth and gums. Others struggle to be really effective with a manual toothbrush and some people brush their teeth twice a day, but rush through it a bit and don’t brush for the recommended 2 minutes. And some people just want their teeth to feel super clean and want the absolute best for their teeth and gums!
For these people, the Oral-B range of 3D oscillating electric toothbrushes are recommended because they have the best evidence for their ability to remove more plaque than regular manual toothbrushes.
And at the top of the Oral-B electric toothbrush range sits the Genius 9000.

Best Features
Personally, my favourite features are the small, round brush heads, the timers, the pressure sensor and the way the brush actually works.
You see, the 3D oscillating action has the best evidence for better plaque removal when compared with regular toothbrushes. So I will always recommend this type of toothbrush over other types, like sonic brushes.
The pressure sensor works really well and I recommend these brushes to every patient who brushes too hard. The round heads allow you to brush in hard-to-reach areas and the timers keep you on track to brush for the recommended amount of time and thoroughly in each area.
The travel case is really nice and the fact that it charges your brush as well as your smartphone at the same time makes people much more likely to actually bring their electric toothbrush along on their next trip!
All of this combines to bring the best possible oral health to you, at home, in your own bathroom and when you’re out in the world.
Bluetooth and your smartphone?
The fact that the brush connects to your phone is quite a cool concept to me. I can imagine that in the future, when everything is connected to the internet, the data we will have will help to improve everyone’s oral health even more.
The position detection feature worked ok, but not consistently, and the brushing habit assessment gives you some good feedback about your brushing technique. But, you’ll always need your dental professional to help you to make sure your brushing is truly effective.
For now, this is definitely a “nice to have” and not something you absolutely need in a toothbrush.
Final thoughts
Don’t get me wrong, electric toothbrushes aren’t for everyone. Some people don’t like the feeling on their teeth or gums and some people simply believe they can’t afford one.
And if you visit your dental professional and make sure that you are brushing effectively with a manual toothbrush then by all means, you can stick with one of them.
But for the best in home toothbrushing, it’s hard to go past the Oral-B Genius 9000 electric toothbrush.
